Unlock Net Zero is an organisation designed to educate, inform and connect people and businesses who are deploying a net zero approach to their operations, products, and services.
Their third annual awards were hosted on Tuesday, 24th June in Manchester as part of the Housing 2025 Conference, and The City of Edinburgh Council and CCG (Scotland) were announced as the winners of the Best Collaboration (Partnership) award.
Western Villages forms part of the £1.3bn Granton Waterfront Regeneration and comprises 444 mixed-tenure homes designed to achieve operational net zero carbon.
MU supported CCG during the project’s delivery with a dual-fuel utilities package, reflective of the non-gas energy strategy adopted for the site.
A key aspect of our work was the integration with sister company, Arc-Tech (Scotland), and the installation of the development’s heating system, which takes the form of a combined air source heat pump system.
Otherwise known as district heating, each property’s space heating and hot water requirements are served from a centralised source, rather than individual water cylinders.
The 10 air source heat pumps and 8 water-to-water heat pumps are contained within a purpose-built energy centre within the masterplan, with the combined system recognised as one of the largest and most sophisticated of its kind in the UK.
Everyone at MU extends our congratulations to the project’s delivery team, and for more information on this year’s winners, CLICK HERE.
